Do Clean Streets and Lack of Rubbish Make Us Happy?

posted on 21 February 2012

Litter is something that affects us all. Whether you are a driver on your way to work or simply a pedestrian waling to the local shop, litter on the streets can make quite a difference to that journey. I find that when I am walking through a dirty, rubbish strewn street I feel less happy and even slightly depressed because of it. The compact sweeper hire service down the road is doing good business. I have never heard of any scientific evidence for this, and it could be just my compulsiveness kicking in, but I just feel aggravated when there is litter around. It can fairly dangerous for drivers as well because if a bag flies up in to the windscreen then there is a risk of crashing or colliding with something. Animals can also be an issue, not only in the danger of them eating and/or getting trapped or hurt by the rubbish but also because it can attract some unwanted, unsavoury and unsanitary creatures such as cockroaches and rats. All in all it is definitely better for everyone for rubbish to be minimised.

My Motorbike History: Adrenaline Junkie

posted on 16 February 2012

I was 13 when I jumped on the back of my Dads Hayabusa. Along the main roads the ride was enjoyable, especially when we turned into corners. I'll always remember the traffic light wheelie where my Dad accidentally performed a 3 second wheelie once the green light lit up. Afterwards he was explaining how powerful the bike was in its acceleration, then I used two fingers and a thumb to twist the throttle and saw for myself how sensitive it was. I'm still concerned about riding on the motorways (highways) but I'm not as bad as I used to be. The first time we hit the motorway I was petrified because he was riding at 90mph and the wind was so strong I thought we were going to fall off. My leg and arm muscles were sore from squeezing the bike with my legs and dad with my arms because I was so terrified of falling off. It wasn't until we got off the motorway that I felt the adrenaline kick in. This was a re-occurring phase I'd go through - petrified of riding on the motorway, relieved and excited when we got off. I'm 18 now and sell motocross helmets for a living. Riding a bike still scares me especially when a sudden gust of wind hits you after you overtake a truck or ride over a bridge. My dad bought me a pitbike around the same age and then he bought me a Honda CR85 which we took to local motox tracks. The best times was when we went to a car dome with both our bikes and rode together.
